Destination Guide - Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal

24 Jun 2021 - Posted By Sindo Ferry

Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is one of the most popular ferry terminals in Singapore that was built in 1995. The terminal is located close to the airport and is very convenient to access, which is why it has remained one of the country’s busiest terminals. In 2007, the terminal underwent a $3 million renovation to better accommodate the ferries and the passengers.

As of now, the terminal mostly serves passengers going to Batam Centre, Nongsa Pura, and Bintan Island, which are all located in Indonesia. The types of passengers who take the ferry from this terminal vary: from tourists going to Bintan Island to regular commuters, including businessmen and workers, getting to Batam by ferry.

Are you looking to book a trip from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal? If so, there are a few things you have to consider, like making sure to check the schedule that suits you well and will take you to your destination in time. After that, you can start looking for accommodations near the terminal. Finally, it can also be important to get on a comfortable ferry with an affordable price!

Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal can get quite busy with regular one-way trips from Singapore to Batam and Bintan. Additionally, we also offer returning ferries between these Indonesian islands and Singapore multiple times a day, so feel free to adjust your schedule.

Where is the terminal located?

Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is located near Changi Airport, making it the perfect terminal for those of you transiting from or to the airport. Especially if you have to catch an early or late night flight. Of course, compared to other popular terminals like Harbourfront Centre, Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is relatively far from the city centre.

Batam is a developing city with a much smaller airport than Singapore. For international visitors, transiting from Changi Airport and getting a Batam ferry ticket from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is often the best option. On the opposite side, we also serve many Indonesians from Batam who are going on international flights from Changi Airport.

Anyone who often takes the ferry to Batam would know about Harbourfront Centre, another popular ferry terminal that is closer to Singapore’s city centre. While Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is further away from the city, it is closer to Batam and Bintan. As a result, the ferry trips are shorter and will only take around 45 minutes. This could save you plenty of time in the long run.

How to get there

Here’s the good news: Singapore has one of the best public transport systems in the world. Getting to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is easy, especially from Changi Airport. Depending on your budget, you can rely on the bus and shuttle service for the cheaper option, or taxi which will cost you more. The options are similar from the city centre; it will just take you longer so make sure to adjust with your schedule.

The closest MRT station to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is the Changi MRT station. However, it is not the most efficient route. Instead, we recommend taking the bus straight to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.  From Changi Airport, the trip will take around 20 minutes, and a little longer from the city centre. Make sure to plan your trip beforehand and if you are ever in a hurry, the taxi can always be a quicker option.

Parking lots (outdoor) is available too which can accomodate approximately 900 cars.  The parking fee is S$1.50 per hour or part thereof (capped at S$28 per 24 hours block).  This is subject to change and for latest updates, please check their website directly.

Most people opt to travel directly between Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and their destination. Yet some people may prefer to get an accommodation, especially after a long flight. There are multiple options near the terminal, from 4-star hotels to cheaper lofts.

If you are looking strictly for a place to rest, we would recommend getting an accommodation within 5 km from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. There are various hotels with different price points. One of the most popular hotels include the Park Avenue Changi, located only 3.7 km away from the terminal. For a 5-star experience, the renowned Crowne Plaza is also very close to Changi Airport.

Those travelling on a budget should not worry too, as there are many other options, like the Cherryloft Resort or Aerotel Singapore. They are much cheaper and only 3 km away from the terminal. If you are not staying overnight, we recommend staying in transit lounges like the Ambassador Transit Lounge.

Things to do near Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal

While most travellers prefer to move in and out of Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal quickly, some might have extra time before their ferry departs. While the area is not a famous tourist destination, there are still a few things that you can do while waiting for your ferry.

Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is close to Changi Beach Park, where you can find some golf parks. However, going to the beach or golfing are not a popular option, especially for people simply waiting to transit. A much better option would be to go for a stroll in the beautiful Changi Jewel canopy park.

If you ever want to go shopping near the terminal, Changi Airport offers a variety of shopping and also dining options. Going to the city centre is also possible as long as you have a flexible schedule.

All in all, Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal can be a great point for you to travel between Singapore and Batam or Bintan. With plenty of accommodation options and some things to do, it’s no wonder that lots of people enjoy transiting here.
